When the calendar hits November each year, there is always a word that comes to mind for me. Gratitude. I have much to be grateful for in November. It's my birthday month, the month I got married and the month of my favorite holiday. But more importantly, it is a time of year in which I reflect upon the people and experiences that I am grateful to have in my life. Unfortunately, it is very easy to always focus on the negative. The past nineteen months have made it a little too easy. However, I am grateful that for the experiences that challenged me to be a better Principal, to look at things in my personal and professional life a little differently, to recognize that every day matters and you should make the most of the time spent with those around you. I am grateful for the return of in person instruction, full hallways and classrooms, school events and those conversations that I get to have with teachers, students and parents. I'm grateful for my health, my family, my friends and colleagues and the opportunities I get to make a difference every day as a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend and yes, a Principal. There are so many positive things happening around us. When you look through a "gratitude lens," in changes everything. As we start a new month, take a look around at all the people, things and experiences that bring you gratitude. I can assure you, that no matter what else may be happening around you, it will change everything....and help make your purpose much clearer.
