It seems that every day there is a different "National Day." Did you know that in January there is "National Buffet Day," "National Spaghetti Day," "National Penguin Day," and National Chocolate Cake Day?" This past Tuesday, January 18th was "National Winnie the Pooh Day" recognizing A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh. Winnie the Pooh was the name of a teddy bear owned by Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne, on whom the character Christopher Robin was based. Since the creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories there have been various memorable characters and quotes that will stand the test of time. The care-free, thoughtful, steadfast Pooh always seemed to show creativity when it was needed most. His friend, Christopher Robin, has one of the most famous quotes in literature when he says to Pooh, "Promise me you'll always remember that you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." This quote hangs on my wall in my office. It is a reminder that no matter the challenges we may face, we are always ready to handle whatever comes our way. It is also a reminder that there are people around you that are there to support you, pick you up and cheer you on. The past several weeks (heck, months and years) have been tough on everyone.....teachers, students, parents and yes, administrators. However, even in the tough times we are stronger than we may seem. Think about all that has been accomplished together in the past 22 months. We are all a little braver, a little stronger and yes, even a little smarter. Sometimes we all need a Christopher Robin in our life to remind us of these things. We are in this together. Let's continue to stand together, support each other and continue to know that "any day spent with our students and each other is our favorite day." Excuse me while I go look for a jar of honey......all this work we have been doing has made me rumbly in my tumbly.........
